Dr Jagandeep Singh Virk, is a renowned and well known name in the field of Orthopaedic Oncology/Oncosurgery based at Mohali (Punjab), India. He specialises in treating patients suffering from Bone or Soft tissue Cancers also known as Sarcomas. He has expertise in performing Limb Salvage Surgeries also known as Limb preservation surgeries in patients suffering from Bone or Soft tissue Cancers and Tumours. He has peformed a large number of such surgeries and has given a new lease of life to numerous Bone Cancer patients. His practice is restricted not only to the Tricity region of Punjab and Haryana but also performed numerous surgeries in Gurugram/Delhi-NCR region, Bathinda, Ganganagar and Bikaner in Rajasthan and also at Srinagar.

Dr Jagandeep S. Virk acquired his basic training of MBBS and MS from Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Chandigarh. He completed three years of Senior Residency/ Registrarship from the same institute. Subsequently, due to active academic interest in the field of Orthopaedic Surgery and numerous national and international publications he was awarded scholarship and fellowship to train at the prestigious Singapore General Hospital (SGH) at Singapore in Adult Reconstruction and Complex Orthopaedic surgeries.

Since, he felt a lacuna in the society especially in Northern India in the domain of Orthopaedic Oncosurgery and neglect, misguidance and unawareness faced by numerous patients suffering from Bone cancers and tumours, did he decide to venture in this field of Orthopaedics. Dr. Virk acquired specialized fellowship training in Orthopaedic Oncosurgery from Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCIRC, New Delhi) awarded by IMA, Hyderabad. He also acquired Clinical Observership training from Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH) from Mumbai.

He has successfully incorporated various latest techniques like use of Recycled Autografts — involoving use of recyled tumour-bearing bone sterilized with Liquid Nitrogen (Cryotherapy), Irradiation (ECRT) and use of customized 3D imprinted Implants/customized and modular prostheses for reconstruction of bone tumour defects. Infact, Dr Virk was the pioneer to start using techniques such as Cryotherapy and use of Radio-frequency ablation for benign bone tumours such as Osteoid Osteoma, Osteoblastoma and Chondroblastoma. He has successfully managed numerous cases of spinal tumours, bone metastases and pathological fractures.

Dr Virk has attended various national and international conferences and meetings on Bone Cancers and Limb Salvage surgeries and presented various lectures and presentations at these forums. He is an active memeber of various national and international societies involved in research and spreading awareness on Sarcomas. He has actively engaged with various cancer societies and chartible trusts to provide financial assistance, counselling sessions, psycological and logistical support to cancer patients.

He has a zeal to excel and provide world-class treatment to all Bone and Soft tissue Cancer patients according to evidence-based guidelines, so that such patients of Northern India are managed effectively close to their home and avoid traveling to far-flung cancer centres for their treatment.
