Percutaneous CT-Guided Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) for Osteoid Osteoma (Benign Bone Tumor)

A short case video presentation on the technique for treating some Benign Bone Tumours such as Osteoid Osteoma by the technique of CT-Guided Radiofrequency Ablation. This benign bone tumour usually seen in the growing age group can be extremely painful, limiting day-to-day activities and stops responding to NSAIDS (analgesic medications) beyond a certain time-period when surgical intervention is sought. This is a minimally invasive, percutaneous technique for ablating the tumour and provides a permanent cure. The procedure takes 30-45 minutes, performed under anaesthesia in a daycare setting. This is a safe, quick and effective technique for providing a permanent cure to benign bone tumour patients suffering from lesions such as osteoid osteoma, osteoblastoma and chondroblastoma.

Limb Salvage Surgery in Osteosarcoma Femur

Osteosarcoma is the most common primary malignant bone tumour having a bimodal age distribution, with the majority of the cases occurring in adolescent/ growing age group. It can also occasionally occur in the elderly. The exact cause for developing this cancer is still unclear, but early recognition of symptoms such as bony pain and swelling especially around the joint regions warrants further evaluation. Limb Salvage Surgery and a good survival probability/prognosis can be offered to the majority of the patients suffering from bone cancer, provided they present to us in a timely fashion and complete the entire treatment. Sharing a couple of cases of Osteosarcoma in a young boy and an elderly man diagnosed to have Osteosarcoma, who underwent Limb Salvage Surgery and Chemotherapy as part of treatment and have completed 1.5years of disease-free follow-up and leading normal lives.
